Designing Your Professional Signal: When UX Principles Apply to the Designer Themselves

Every designer and researcher in this room has audited a broken product. You've mapped flows, identified friction, and redesigned experiences so users could finally get what they came for.

But have you ever done that for yourself?

The hiring funnel is one of the most broken products in our industry and the people most qualified to fix it are the exact ones being filtered out by it. We apply rigorous craft to other people's problems. When it comes to our own professional signal, we default to resume templates, generic portfolios, and keyword stuffing.

This not an exercise in personal branding but precision communication with a known user. Those who navigate this well aren't just "lucky". They're applying a skill they already have...just finally to themselves.
