Got a cool perspective to share?

Speak at UX Y’all 2019!

Join us in beautiful Durham, NC to share your experience.

Our focus for the program this year is to explore what it means to be an industry that is truly for all. We’re looking for talks that include themes of inclusion and collaboration, or experience overcoming exclusion and silos. Y’all means all!

 Judgement Criteria —

We want speakers who will engage audience members as a part of their presentation and beyond. Come to the party, chat over coffee, that sort of thing.

We’re looking for new ideas and conversations; this is your opportunity to open up a conversation, provide a unique perspective, or ask a question you haven’t heard posed before.

This event is a labor of love, and we want people to get the most out of it as they can. We will prioritize submissions that are well-written, on-theme, and don’t sound like a sales pitch.

More than just slide decks!

Talks with slides are welcome, but we’re also eager for sessions that are more participatory or collaborative. These might include:

  • Short activities

  • Facilitated discussions with the audience

  • Anything that gets our attendees involved!

Hello first-time speakers!

We welcome a chance to help new speakers bring their ideas to a broader audience. If you are new to speaking, we can work with you to find a mentor to provide feedback and help polish your session.

Speakers will receive free admission to the conference, including:

  • Participation in the full program

  • Lunch

  • Refreshments throughout the day

  • Wi-fi at the conference venue

Application Timeline

  • May 1, 2019: Call for speaker applications opens.

  • June 14, 2019: Call for speaker applications closes.

  • June-July: Our team will review the proposals. We may reach out to you with follow up questions about your proposal.

  • By August 5: You’ll hear back from the UX Y’all team.

Our primary focus is to connect the UX community within the Triangle and highlight local voices, but we will do our best to cover speaker travel and accommodation expenses if requested.

When submitting your proposal, please let us know if you will need financial support, and if so, some details to help us estimate your costs: where you’re traveling from, how many nights you’ll need accommodation, etc.

We can’t guarantee to cover all expenses and costs will be a factor in our decision about whether to accept sessions or not. If your session is accepted, we will propose a monetary amount based on our budget and understanding of your needs. Unfortunately, we cannot accept requests for additional financial support after you have agreed to an amount and we cannot pay expenses that we haven’t decided to pay in advance of the event.

Multiple Speakers

We strive to be fair and compensate our content-providers appropriately. In order to do this and remain good financial stewards of our community, we will determine compensation and discounts for multiple speakers and panelists on a case-by-case basis.

We want to support all our speakers. Please let us know if you require more information.
