Sara Weir

Advisory UX Innovation Researcher, Lenovo

I am a mixed methods researcher and storyteller with a background in data and design. At Lenovo, I work to develop new concepts for products, services, and experiences that can positively impact customers and end-users. My work focuses on sustainability and accessibility solutions. What I love most about my role is that I get to bring end-users into the design and research process to co-create solutions which builds empathy and understanding (and cool products). Outside of work, I consider myself an amateur world traveler and love to explore new places. I can always find a new home DIY project to keep busy. And if I am not doing any of those things, you can find me taking pictures of my dog Roux. Please reach out to learn more about any of my most recent projects or adventures!

UX Faults, Flaws and Faux Pas: What to do when your plan doesn’t go to plan.

Venture Hall, Thursday 3:00 pm - 3:45 pm

We always hear about UX case studies that are exemplary, blew people away. But what happens when the plan doesn’t work out as intended? This talk will help UX’ers navigate and overcome these tricky moments. Users, prototypes, and data can be unpredictable and when combined in design and research activities it is always best to prepare for the unexpected. When a previously functional prototype decides not to work in the moment, when qualitative and quantitative results don’t match, when a group of participants is particularly not chatty, or when the findings are the exact opposite key stakeholders were wanting, what do you do? These are a few examples of scenarios I will walk you through. It will be a little stressful, a lot of funny, and provide you a toolkit to use going forward.
