Gregor Mittersinker is CEO and Founder of Loft LLC, an integrated UX, industrial design, and mechanical engineering consultancy with offices in Boston, Providence, Raleigh, and Madison. A mechanical engineer and human factors designer by training, he brings more than 25 years of experience translating user needs into products that are both technically rigorous and deeply human-centered. Loft's work spans connected medical devices, consumer electronics, and complex physical-digital systems, earning more than 50 international design awards including the Red Dot, IDSA IDEA, and Core77. Gregor holds more than 130 patents and teaches UX and Service Design at the Rhode Island School of Design.
Beyond the Screen: UX Design for Physical-Digital Ecosystems
UX design has traditionally focused on digital interfaces, but connected devices, smart products, and IoT systems now ask users to move between physical controls, embedded displays, mobile apps, and cloud services as one seamless experience. Product teams rarely build them that way.
This session introduces Hardware UX: designing experiences that span physical and digital touchpoints as a coherent whole. Drawing from award-winning connected product work, it covers ecosystem journey mapping, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and prototyping methods that bridge hardware and software.
