Olha Novikova is a UX Designer and recent MFA graduate in User Experience Design from NC State. With roots in graphic design in Ukraine and experience spanning corporate, academic, and nonprofit clients, she has built a practice around one core belief: things people create should have a purpose, and it is always worth asking why. She is drawn to complex problems, honest conversations with users, and finding the humans at the center of any challenge.

What happens when a company spends 40+ years building products and never stops to ask users what they actually need?
We are a team of three in a 300+ person organization who introduced structured user research for the first time in our company's history. We started small: simple interviews, honest questions. And every time, stakeholders walked away saying the same thing: "We didn't expect to still learn something new."
This talk is for solo designers and small teams who want to open that door.
